5 Examples of ‘Face Recognition’ in the digital age of business

Data and businesses have been working closer than ever. Businesses can use data to analyse or predict the needs of customers, to develop and improve products and services effectively. Data isn’t only text and numbers, as processing power grows, image and video data has become a more common focus area for analytics, such as Face Recognition. This technology can detect and identify users, helping businesses to use the information they have gathered in a variety of areas. Some examples where face recognition tech is being used:

1. Retail and Marketing Face recognition can be used to enhance business and marketing operations by collecting customer data and usage behaviour; what products are purchased the most, products that new and regular customers buy, gender and age of customers, etc. This information is useful for businesses when creating marketing plans. This will increase the opportunities for operations and service development, so a unique experience can be delivered to the individual customer by anticipating the amount of product storage, helping warehouse management increase efficiency. The system can also analyse route information for buying products and monitor areas where customers often use the service, to manage traffic flow and improve service.

2. Airports Currently, face recognition technology is used in airport check-in and boarding gates, replacing boarding passes in many countries such as the United States, China, Japan and Malaysia increasing convenience and creating a fast and seamless travel experience for passengers. In addition, face recognition technology can also maintain security in operational areas within airlines as an access control system for office buildings. This makes sure that private areas of the airport stay that way.

3. Health centre and Hospitals (Healthcare) More and more patients in hospitals are being registered on a digital system. Face recognition technology is another option that can be used to access data. Checking patient history, Treatment history and drug allergies. Face scanning reduces the workload for staff, as well as helping patients receive convenient and fast service that is secure.

4. Schools Face detection and recognition technology can be used to confirm the identity of parents who come to pick up students, in order to promote child safety. It is also used to track the behaviour of students who need extra attention such as children who behave inappropriately, and children with special needs or learning disabilities. Staff need to consider the rights of students however, by informing the students and requesting parents’ permission before tracking with the face detection camera in the school area.

5. Logistics In the shipping process, face recognition can be used to confirm the sender and receiver’s identity. This prevents wrong deliveries and lost products. This can be adapted to transporting large quantities of goods and high-value products, especially in the industrial business and wholesale business.

These are just some examples of Face Recognition’s vast potential. This technology can also be applied to other business areas in many different forms depending on the type of business and their specific needs..

Face recognition technology can be used to increase the chances of success for businesses by impressing individual customers and increasing brand loyalty. However, what entrepreneurs should consider the most is privacy, and the personal rights of customers. Collecting face data requires the individuals’ consent as well. As well as considering Data Security, which must prevent the leaking and misuse of customer face data. Confidence and trust in the brand is one of the key factors that lead to a business’s success in the digital age.
